In
all the things I do in life
The way that others view them
Should matter not as much to me
As reasons why I do them.

Toni McCorkle is a self-taught folk artist living in Florida who
uses found materials for most of her work.
Paintings
begin with whatever surface will hold paint --- salvaged metal,
scrap wood, old cloth book covers to name a few. Papier-mache pieces
begin with cooking up old unwanted books for pulp. Papercuttings
are often cut from the unprinted front & back pages of old books.
Scavenging
for materials is more than a hobby for her - it's a way of life
just as creating folk art is not a hobby for her - it's a compulsion.
Words are often featured in her work - to bring a smile or to touch
a heart or mind, one hopes.
Toni's work
has been sold in museum shops and art galleries around the U.S.A.,
including the American Folk Art Museum in New York City, and some
has even gone abroad.
She was a recent
exhibitor at a show at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney in
Orlando, Florida.
Her designs
have been featured in several publications, including Country Living
Holidays, Somerset Studio, and Better Homes & Gardens Santa
Claus magazines. She has also designed a few Christmas ornaments
for mass-production by Silvestri/Fitz & Floyd.
We are so happy
to have Toni's work here at Southern Heart Gallery...we hope you
enjoy her art work as much as we do! Click
